Welke metalen die daarin worden gebruikt dreigen snel op te raken? „Niet zoveel”, zegt Theo Henckens, die in oktober promoveerde op een onderzoek naar schaarste van een zestigtal metalen. „Je zou denken aan de zogeheten zeldzame aardmetalen. Maar die zijn geologisch minder zeldzaam dan hun naam doet vermoeden. Er zit ook wat goud in, dat wel snel schaars wordt. Maar goud is een uitzonderlijk geval, want de antropogene goudvoorraad is groot.”

Waardevolle technologie: de hydraulische waskolom
Waardevolle technologieën hebben soms wat rijping en een nieuw elan nodig. Dat was ook het geval met de hydraulische waskolom (HWC). TNO heeft de HWC technologie gedurende 20 jaar ontwikkeld en gevalideerd. Om de opschaalbaarheid aan te tonen zijn in die periode twee commerciële installaties afgeleverd. De spin-out SoliQz brengt de HWC nu op de markt.
