The three large Rhenish VDI district associations Aachen, Cologne and Niederrhein with a total of over 13,000 members have had good experiences with cross-association online activities. This motivated them to develop a virtual series of events together on an important technical main topic. With more than ten events, in addition to lectures, workshops, podiums and more, the "VDI-Rheinland-Staffel" is intended to provide broad knowledge, fruitful exchange and above all many for interested beginners, application-oriented practitioners and experienced specialists provide inspiration.

The main topic is "Artificial Intelligence" (AI for short), which is understood to mean technologies that supplement and strengthen human abilities in seeing, hearing, analyzing, making decisions and acting. Behind this are complex but also structured technical approaches that offer a wide range of possibilities and can already be found in different forms in operational practice, but whose development has only just begun. The events range from introductory topics to application examples in various industries, company sectors and company sizes, as well as introductory and usage instructions to special topics such as AI and ethics as well as AI and law.

The VDI Rhineland season on artificial intelligence (AI) begins with two basic presentations. First there will be a lecture "VDI-Rheinland-Staffel KI: Introduction to Artificial Intelligence" on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at 6:00 p.m. online on the beginnings and basics of AI. The lecture follows here:

"VDI Rhineland Relay AI: Technologies of Artificial Intelligence"
on Wednesday, June 08, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. to approx. 7:30 p.m
online on the Internet about the approaches and tools of AI.

The speaker is Justus Benning, M.Sc., deputy head of information management and head of the information logistics department at FIR at RWTH Aachen University, who has been working intensively on artificial intelligence for several years.

The next step is application-oriented lectures from the other district associations.
