On Thursday July 6th following our General Members Assembly, KIVI Aerospace will host a lecture by Frank Kaiser on the topic of Certification of Hydrogen-Electric Flight, starting at 19.30 in the KIVI building in The Hague.

Abstract of the lecture

Recent technology developments are paving the way for innovative aircraft configurations such as electric motor propulsion driven by electricity from hydrogen and fuel cells and from batteries. The need for lower emission flight is a strong driver for these developments. Safety remains a primordial requirement, to be assured via existing and new certification regulations, both for airworthiness and operations. This presentation focuses on the certification challenges and on the roles of industry and authorities to define these new regulations and the means of showing compliance. EVTOL and other electric aircraft configurations will be discussed as examples, as well as the processes and behaviours that startup companies need to implement.

About Frank Kaiser

Mr. Frank Kaiser is former Head of Design Organization at ADSE Consulting and Engineering B.V., in Hoofddorp, the Netherlands. ADSE is an independent company where many of the former Fokker aircraft OEM development, integration and certification expertise is retained and capitalized. This technical and process expertise is brought to the market in support of aircraft development and certification activities at OEM’s and tier 1 and 2 companies, recently in eVTOL, helicopter and UAV startups.

A highly experienced electronic and electrical vehicle system expert and integrator and as such recognized in the field of avionics by the Aviation Authorities and the professional community. As MSc in electrical engineering Mr. Kaiser started his career in Fokker Aircraft in 1989. In 1996 he joined a position in Rockwell Collins working on the conception of the Proline Fusion architecture and IMA, later focussing on the A380 cockpit systems, IMA and AFDX. In 2003 he joined Thales Avionics in Toulouse as a systems engineering program manager in the integrated cockpit systems division. In 2005 Frank returned to his home country to join ADSE. He is now leading the vehicle control systems consulting & engineering activities and he is Head of Design of the EASA approved Design Organisation. He and his team have been active in particular with cabin connectivity activities including making WiFi in the cabin work from the perspective of airworthiness and operational approval.
