Omschrijving

In February this year it was 60 years ago that the “Watersnoodramp” (North Sea Flood of 1953) occurred. Since then, and especially in the last two decades, many floods with major consequences have caused problems worldwide. The United States have been hit with various hurricane related floods (e.g. Katrina and Sandy), that caused major damage. Many people have lost their lives in the tsunami of the year 2004 in the Indian Ocean. The Mekong Delta and the city of Jakarta are suffering from the effects of climate change and land subsidence that cause regular flooding. During this symposium we will get the opinion of experts on these and many other issues and even more importantly some proposals for the solutions!
