ExxonMobil’s Outlook for Energy: a View to 2040

What does ExxonMobil expect the world’s energy to look like 30 years from now? The answer to that question varies by region, reflecting diverse economic and demographic trends as well as the evolution of technology and government policies.

The Outlook for Energy projects ExxonMobil’s forecast of long-term trends in energy demand, supply and technology. It is a comprehensive and detailed analysis of the world’s energy future, built upon a combination of public and proprietary data from more than 100 countries. ExxonMobil uses the Outlook for Energy to guide its global investment decisions.

Harro van de Rhee

Harro van de Rhee joined ExxonMobil in 1991 (at that time Exxon Chemical). After his graduation in Chemical Engineering at the University of Twente, Harro held a number of technical positions in Rotterdam. From 1993 to 1998 he was analyst in the Natural Gas Department and held several functions in the Benelux Supply and Distribution department.

In 1998 Harro returned to the Rotterdam Refinery, where he held several operational positions before he became Technical Manager in 2002. Three years later he was appointed Operations Manager of the ExxonMobil Chemical Aromatics Plant in Rotterdam.

In 2006 Harro moved to the US and became Planning Advisor, Downstream Business Development Projects in Fairfax. Three year later he moved to Baytown, Texas, as Baytown Refinery Technical Manager and in 2011 back to Fairfax again to become the Americas Crude Optimization Manager.

In April 2012 Harro was appointed refinery manager of the ExxonMobil Refinery in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
