In this lecture, Philippe Lavagna and Vincent Mazarguil of SBM offshore presented a brief overview of the Prelude Turret Mooring System project context. The focus was on addressing the safety philosophies and the main functionalities of the Turret. They gave emphasis to the fluid transfer function and Safety related designs following the path of the gas - coming from the seabed via the risers, the manifold and the swivel stack to the Topsides.

Prelude Turret Mooring System - Review of Functionalities and Focus on Safety Systems

SBM Offshore - Philippe Lavagna

The Prelude FLNG project is a major milestone for the Offshore Industry: many world records have been broken with this prestigious Shell project.

Engineered by SBM Offshore based on the Shell design philosophy for Prelude FLNG project, with a dedicated commitment to safety and reliability, the Prelude Turret Mooring System (TMS) has its share of 'these world firsts'.

A brief overview of the Prelude TMS project context will be provided addressing the safety philosophies and the main functionalities of the Turret. Emphasis will be given to the fluid transfer function and Safety related designs following the path of the gas - coming from the seabed via the risers, the manifold and the swivel stack to the Topsides.

In the course of the presentation, the following questions will be addressed:

- Why is the Prelude TMS as big as it is? How much bigger is it than the previous record size Turrets?
- How does the Turret connect to the vessel?
- Discuss the design considerations taken in getting the natural gas from the wellbore through the Turret and to the vessel Topsides.
- What were the most critical parts of the TMS design? What is the most critical part of its functions during operations?
- Can the vessel weathervane during offloading?
