Crashing Safely
Omschrijving
Shipping is gradually embracing natural gas as bunker fuel. The most viable way to store the natural gas on board is in its liquid form, at cryogenic temperatures and moderately pressurized. Loss of containment following a severe damage due to a collision or a dropped object, is one of the hazards to be addressed, because of the major effects on safety and on the ship structure when spilled. This presentation will show latest research on this subject at TNO, such as crash tests. Results of these projects, and their influence on future LNG ship design, will be presented in the frame of a larger picture on the future implementation of LNG as a fuel in shipping.
