Falling Down Safely
Omschrijving
Free-fall lifeboats are a primary strategy for evacuation in the offshore industry. Evacuation is achieved by releasing the boat from a height of 20-40m above water. The shape of the lifeboats means that the vertical speed built up during the drop is transformed to horizontal speed after emerging from the water. MARIN has been working for the last three years with the Norwegian Oil and Gas Association and Statoil to develop a procedure for assessing whether free-fall lifeboats can safely move away from the platform. Ingo Drummen will explain this procedure and the tests and simulations part of it.
