Omschrijving

The 2014 KIVI Mechanics Symposium will be on the topic of advanced robotics in a complex environment. The purpose of the symposium is to give some insight into the recent trends and developments in robotics research and the industry. The symposium is organized together with the Robotics and Mechatronics group of the University of Twente.

Demonstrations:
β€’ Yaskawa robot demonstration (e.g. dual arm MOTOMAN robot)
β€’ Segway demonstration and drive organized by Research and Mechatronics Group

13:00 – 13:15 Opening of the symposium by Evert Rietdijk (KIVI)
13:15 – 14:00 Lecture 1: Robotics, the new technology wave to be surfed
by Prof. Stefano Stramigioli
(University of Twente, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics & Computer Science)
The presentation will give an introduction of the field of robotics from an historical and social perspective and present a number of activities related to different applications relevant from a social and economic perspective.
14:00 – 14:45 Lecture 2: biomimetics: from human to robot
by Prof.dr. Patrick van der Smagt
(TU Muenchen, Biomimetic Robotics and Machine Learning)
As sensors have become commonplace in robots, the age of old-fashioned industrial robotics seems to finally be surpassed by more light and agile systems. But light-weight flexible systems pose challenges to sensing and control theory. How did nature solve this? To study this issue, we develop machine learning methods and use these in modelling and understanding human biomechanics and neural movement control. These models can then be exploited in the development of flexible, adaptive robotics and brain-machine interfaces.

15:15 – 16:00 Lecture 3: Trends and Developments in Industrial Robotics
by Eddie Mennen (Managing Director) or Guido Jansen (Account Manager Robotics)
(Yaskawa Benelux BV, Research & Development)
YASKAWA Electric is one of the world’s leading manufacturers in the fields of drive technology, industrial automation and robotics. For almost 100 years now, our products and solutions have been supporting automation in a wide variety of industrial processes including mining, mechanical engineering and tool making, as well as the automotive, packaging, wood processing, lift, textile and semiconductor industries.
This presentation is related to some of the recent development at Yaskawa on the control systems for robotics. The purpose is to develop a controller that is multifunctional applicable and part of a total control system without the user having to understand and know the robot programming language.
16:00 – 17:30 Tour through the Mechatronics Laboratory
(Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics & Computer Science, Robotics and Mechatronics (RAM) Group)
17:30 – 17:45 Closing and summary by Evert Rietdijk (KIVI)
