An American company with expertise in catalysts, and a Swedish company that produces renewable solutions for packing materials from wood pulp have announced a joint development and license agreement to cooperate on bio-based chemicals development.
Rennovia works on the development of new catalysts using its high-throughput catalyst infrastructure to get cost effective production of chemicals from renewable resources. The Swedish company Stora Enso sees this agreement as a logical step in the development of new products. They already run biorefinery in Finland and acquired Virdia which produces cellulosic sugars.
In Rennovia’s portfolio are biobased glucaric acid, adipic acid, 1,6-hexanediol, hexamethylenediamine (HMD), and other important building blocks for a wide range of functional materials. Rennovia has successfully combined its bio-based AA and HMD to produce 100% renewable nylon-6,6.
