What plants are doing for many years for producing chemicals, might be also suitable for producing chemicals for the market.
What plants are doing for many years for producing chemicals, might be also suitable for producing chemicals for the market. Siemens and Evonik have launched a project in which they cooperate to combine energy from renewable resources with bacteria to produce specialty chemicals from CO2. The project is called Rheticus. The project has to run for 2 years and the first pilot plant is scheduled for 2021. The first idea is to produce feedstocks for special plastics and food supplements, but the production could be extended to other chemicals.
Siemens brings in the electrolysis technology while Evonik does the fermentation. By both bringing in their own expertise, the companies are working together for a sustainable production of chemicals.
