For the first item in the New Year allow us to pat ourselves a on the back and to remind ourselves why 'chemicals' is NOT a four-letter word. The chemistry sector in The Netherlands is the fourth largest in Europe. It is essential for the Dutch economy and with 44000 employees and a turn-over of € 42 billion per year it covers 16% of the production, 18% of exports, 15% of investments and 13% of R&D outlays. Chemistry plays a key-role because companies in the sector produce materials for many industries, thereby extending its influence in significant parts of the Dutch economy. These statistics were compiled by the VNCI.
