Last year an accident took place in a factory of DuPont in La Porte, Texas in which a toxic leak killed 4 people.
An initial inquiry by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration found problems in its insecticide unit, where the November accident happened, resulting in a proposed $99,000 fine. After
more scrutiny OSHA has now found violations elsewhere at the plant, leading to a $273,000 fine for other safety violations and placement on the list of “serious violators”. The fine is no big deal for a company the size o DuPont, but the negative publicity of being on the list is very damaging for a company that likes to boast of its safety record and exports its safety training program to other companies.
