Critical raw materials are crucial for the Dutch manufacturing industry, but also for the energy transition. Rare earth metals are used for wind turbines, electrical cars and LED lighting. To increase awareness of the dependence on these materials, a tool has been developed to gain insight into supply risks of elements like Cobalt and Lithium.
Companies can check for a certain product which materials are critical and what could be done to cope with the risk. Issues for a certain material could be a strongly fluctuating price, administrative instability in a certain country or environmental aspects.
The monitor has to increase the awareness of the dependence on rare materials. From a circular economy point of view it also is important since it is not possible to utilize materials that are wasted already.
