On 12 December 2024 Prof. Andrei Metrikine received the honorary medal in the field of Offshore Technology from the divisions of KIVI Offshore Technology and Maritime Technology. This medal is intended for persons who or organisations which have made themselves exceptionally worthy in the field of Offshore Technology, and is awarded every 4 years.
Prof. Andrei Metrikine has been a driving force in the Offshore and Dredging Engineering Master at TU Delft for many years. He moved frontiers in research and stimulated students to do the same. He was involved in the graduation of nearly 400 students and supervised more than 20 PhD students.
As a scientist he contributed to more than 250 articles and a book, and is regarded an authority in the field of vibrations, fluid-structure dynamics and soil-structure interaction. He developed many scientific models to describe and understand these phenomena. These models are generally characterized by striking clarity, simplicity and elegance.
Andrei Metrikine has played an instrumental role in bringing theoretical research to practical solutions, fostering the cooperation between university and industry. His work resulted in two spin-off companies, two patents, and the development of offshore design guides and standards.
The jury, consisting of members of KIVI’s Offshore and Maritime Technology divisions and an external advisor, was unanimous in awarding the Medal of Honour to Andrei Metrikine.
