2nd Friday Delft: Allseas
Omschrijving
In June 2010 Allseas awarded the South Korean shipyard Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering the construction of the 382 m long Pioneering Spirit (former Pieter Schelte).
The vessel is designed to install or remove platform topsides up to 48,000 t and jackets up to 25,000 t in a single lift operation to significantly reduce the duration of offshore campaigns.
Additionally the vessel will be outfitted with pipelaying equipment with a holding capacity of 2,000 tons.
The ship was delivered in November 2014 and it is now undergoing a first outfitting stage in Rotterdam.
Pioneering Spirit will be the first vessel capable of single-lift platform installation. Realisation of a new type of vessel of such dimensions is a complex and huge operation.
The lecture explains the challenges encountered during the design, construction and outfitting of the vessel from an engineer’s point of view. There will be ample opportunities to ask questions.
