Title: Electromagnetic Computations on Electrically Large Platforms

Speaker:

Tobias Trombatore (Hensoldt)

Abstract:

When it comes to electrically large objects, commonly used computational electromagnetic methods like the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD), the finite-difference frequency-domain (FDFD) or the Method of Moments (MoM) face the problem of prohibitively long computation times to determine the propagated fields within defined boundary conditions.

For such cases approximate computational methods have been proposed. One of them is the Shooting and Bouncing Ray (SBR) algorithm that uses geometrical optics (GO) and physical optics (PO) in combination with diffraction theories such as the physical theory of diffraction (PTD).

This talk demonstrates the use of CST Studio Suite's asymptotic solver which implements SBR method to compute radar cross sections (RCS), antenna patterns and antenna couplings on and across electrically large platforms.

Title: A walk through the Quality Assurance in the EM based Hyperthermia

Speaker: Deovrat Phal (TU/e, EM))

Abstract:

Hyperthermia is a cancer treatment that use heat to kill cancer cells. It is often used in conjunction with other treatments like radiation therapy or chemotherapy to enhance their effectiveness. In the EM based Hyperthermia, the heat is generated using the array of antennas. Quality assurance in hyperthermia is a critical process to ensure that the treatment is delivered safely, effectively, and consistently. It involves a series of validation procedures to verify that the equipment is functioning correctly, the dose is accurately delivered and within the therapeutic range. The talk summarizes current electric near-field and temperature-based measurement approaches to assure the quality of hyperthermia delivery in EM-based hyperthermia. In addition, we will indicate our new approach and show the first results of my PhD work.

Bio:

Deovrat Phal is a first year PhD student in the EM4Care&Cure group, working on the QA for EM based Hyperthermia, under supervision of Prof. Maarten Paulides and Prof. Kemal Sumser.
