It is not necessary to resort to ‘green’ fuel to reduce GHG emissions. The transport industry – both road and air transport – is notoriously resistant to change in this area, while they are equally notorious polluters.

Especially trucks have a bad reputation in this respect. (The Obama administration has just issued aggressive new emission standards for heavy-duty trucks.) Switching from diesel fuel to LNG will go some way in this direction, at least as long as no better alternatives are at hand. Shell has embraced this concept and opened a LNG-fuel station (its fifth so far) along the A2 near Eindhoven. In doing so they can claim a positive contribution to the environment, while at the same time sticking to their latest philosophy “More gas!“.
