Then you can ensure that within those five years you will develop in a focused way into an independent all-round top engineer! You set out the various competences you have acquired during your career in your portfolio, which you draw up in the registration process.
- Competences
Chartered Engineering has five main competences:
- Knowledge;
- Skills;
- Leadership;
- communication;
- and Commitment.
The more detailed competence requirements of a Chartered Engineer differ from those of an Incorporated Engineer.
- Process
- Stage 0 (optional): Pre-screening CV
Still doubting your qualities as an engineer? Send a CV in Dutch or English to chartered@kivi.nl for an initial screening. - Phase 1: Submit CV
Convinced of your qualities as an engineer and want to obtain the quality mark for top engineers? Then register on charteredengineer.nl and upload your CV (Dutch or English). After an entry check, you will gain access to the special online environment to compile your portfolio. - Phase 2: Drawing up portfolio
The user-friendly online portfolio environment is structured according to the five core competences and corresponding sub-competences and helps you describe your skills and attach supporting evidence. Still not sure what to do? Our mentors are ready to help you, or use our instruction material. - Phase 3: Quick scan
Are you well on your way, or (almost) ready? Then submit your portfolio to us to see if you are on the right track. Using a simple checklist, we will show you how your portfolio is doing. - Stage 4: Review
Is your portfolio ready? Then submit it for formal review. A Chartered or Incorporated Engineer will review your portfolio and feed back points of improvement for you to work on. The reviewer finally approves your portfolio. - Stage 5: Professional Review Interview (PRI)
When your portfolio is approved, you will be invited to your PRI. In this, you will be interviewed for 90 minutes by two assessors (both Chartered or Incorporated Engineers), at least one of whom is from your field. You start with a 10-15-minute presentation and are then interviewed about your presentation and your portfolio. As an engineer, you yourself are at the centre of this interview. - Stage 6: Chartered or Incorporated Engineer
If the whole process is successful, you will be included in the KIVI Chartered Engineer Register as a new Chartered or Incorporated Engineer. You will be awarded a certificate in recognition of your achievements and after this you may use the professional and internationally recognised title CEng or IEng.
- Stage 0 (optional): Pre-screening CV
- Continuing professional development (CDP)
Every Chartered or Incorporated Engineer must register 100 CPD hours biennially in the online tooling, spread across all 5 main competences. This extends registration as a Chartered or Incorporated Engineer by two years each time. With CPD, you can think of work experience, attending a course, giving a presentation, writing an article, mentoring a student or a role as a volunteer. It is also for personal reflection and helps guide your professional development. For anyone who becomes a Chartered or Incorporated Engineer, CPD often comes naturally.
- Support & Guidance
Our dedicated Chartership team is here to help and advise you at all stages of the process. For example, as a candidate, you can be paired with a mentor who can help you build your portfolio. This is also possible if you are already a Chartered or Incorporated Engineer and have questions about your CPD registration. The mentor is himself a Chartered or Incorporated Engineer and has completed our mentor training. All your personal and professional information is kept confidential, our mentors and assessors have all signed a confidentiality agreement and our online tooling is certified cybersecure. If your employer requires heavier confidentiality for certain pieces of evidence you want to include in your portfolio, customisation is possible.
