Discounts
- I am a student. Am I eligible for discounted membership fees?
Yes, anyone pursuing full-time engineering / technical studies (college or wo) is eligible for KIVI student membership. Upload a copy of your student card and/or current proof of enrolment during registration. You will then soon receive an (adjusted) invoice. The membership fee is €30.00 per year. Student members receive The Engineer digitally.
- I am an AIO / PhD student. Am I eligible for discounted membership fees?
Yes, AIOs/PhD students are eligible for a discount on regular membership. Upload a copy of your appointment during registration. You will then soon receive an (adjusted) invoice. The membership fee is €60.00 per year.
- I live with another KIVI member at the same address. Am I eligible for discounted membership fees?
Yes, if you live with another member at the same address and want to receive only one copy of The Engineer together with that member, you can apply for a discount of €85 on the membership fee of either of you. The condition is that both of you have a regular membership. The discount is applied to the membership fee of either member and applies for the period that both members live at the same address. If a membership starts during the year and the above discount is granted, it will be calculated pro rata. Send an e-mail to ledenadministratie@kivi.nl stating both your names, membership numbers and common address, to inform which name/membership number the discount should be calculated at.
- From what age am I eligible for senior discount?
Unfortunately, we do not have a special rate for senior citizens.
- I want to become a member after attending a KIVI event, can I get the paid entry fee as a discount?
Yes you can! Nice that you are convinced to become a member after attending an event.
The confirmation e-mail you received after registering for an event contains a discount code. This discount code can be used as a discount on a membership until one month after the event. The amount of the discount depends on the price you paid as entrance fee. If you paid €35 to attend an event, you will receive a discount of €35 on your membership.
The discount you can use will be a maximum of € 100. If you paid € 150 for admission or for a course, you will receive a discount code for € 100.
If you no longer have the e-mail or have questions about this, you can e-mail us at website@kivi.nl

- How can I cancel my membership?
KIVI membership is valid until written cancellation. Send your cancellation before 1 December and your membership will end at the end of the current year.

KIVI
t.a.v. Ledenadministratie
Postbus 30424
2500 GK Den Haag - Can anyone else, such as my employer, cancel my membership?
A KIVI membership is personal and can generally only be terminated by you. Are you part of a collective membership and your contract with your employer ends? Your membership will then continue and the invoice will be addressed to you in a subsequent year.
- I have left my employer, can my membership be transferred to a colleague's name?
No, a KIVI membership is personal and cannot be transferred to a colleague's name. Of course, your colleague can take out a KIVI membership himself, which can be done here.
Payments
- To which account number can I transfer the KIVI contribution?
The IBAN account number to which KIVI dues should be transferred is: NL69 INGB 0005 0965 16. This is an account number at the ING Bank. The account name is 'KIVI' in The Hague.
- I did not receive an invoice by post, but I am a KIVI member
KIVI members whose e-mail address is known to us will receive the invoice by e-mail.
- Why do I receive the invoice by e-mail?
KIVI sends its members a cost breakdown of the personally determined contribution by e-mail. To members who have indicated to prefer a written invoice, the invoice will be sent by post. If we have a specific billing address, the invoice will also be sent by post. If you prefer a paper invoice, please send an e-mail to the membership administration: ledenadministratie@kivi.nl.
Please note that KIVI charges a fee for sending a paper invoice. - Can I receive an invoice with VAT?
No, the KIVI fee is exempt from VAT. It is therefore not possible to receive an invoice with VAT.
Direct debit
- Can I also pay my membership fees by direct debit?
Of course! We would greatly appreciate it if you would pay by direct debit. That way you are always on time with your payments and you avoid reminder costs. Your direct debit saves KIVI a lot of time, time that is preferably spent on other activities.
Please note: direct debit is only possible from a Dutch bank account.
Download the authorisation formhere and send it to the KIVI membership administration, by e-mail: ledenadministratie@kivi.nl or by post:
KIVI
t.a.v. Ledenadministratie
Postbus 30424
2500 GK Den HaagAfter issuing the authorisation, KIVI will collect your contribution around 25 January of the new contribution year. A second and final collection round will take place at the end of April. If you subsequently become a member and issue a direct debit authorisation, you will pay the current year's contribution manually and KIVI will automatically collect the contribution from the following year. Do you disagree with the direct debit? Then you have the option of reversing the direct debit within eight weeks. You will always receive a cost specification of your personally determined contribution before the start of a new contribution year.
- When will the direct debit be collected?
Annual dues are collected around 25 January, with a second and final round of collections to follow at the end of April.
- Is it also possible to collect membership fees by monthly direct debit?
In principle, the membership fee is collected in one go.
It is possible to pay in instalments over 10 months. Please use the direct debit form for this.

Invoice / payment reminder / double payment
- I received an e-mail about the membership fee for the coming year. The attachment was not included. How can I still get it?
An e-mail, but no attachment? Then do not check your e-mail via 'Mail for Windows 10' or another e-mail program, but look directly at the server in your mailbox. You will often find the attachment there. If you do not find the attachment there, mail ledenadministratie@kivi.nl and we will resend the invoice with attachment.
- I recently received another invoice for membership fees. Now I am receiving another invoice. How is that possible?
KIVI sets your personal contribution per calendar year. If you became a member in the course of this year, your membership fee is set pro rata. If you become a member in August, you will receive an invoice until the end of December. In November, we send the invoice for the next membership year, so you may receive two membership invoices in quick succession.
- I received a payment reminder even though I have already paid.
Have you already paid? Mail your payment statement to ledenadministratie@kivi.nl. We will take this into consideration.
- I have paid the membership fee twice. How do I get my money back?
If you have accidentally paid the membership fee twice, KIVI will automatically refund the excess amount paid as soon as possible to the account from which the payment was made. For further questions regarding this, please contact the financial administration at financieleadministratie@kivi.nl.
- I have received a membership letter stating that I have to pay a transition surcharge of €45. What does this mean?
The transition surcharge is for 2026 and supports the necessary transition to a future-proof KIVI. You pay the surcharge now, but upon continued membership you will receive it back in three years, provided the reorganisation is successfully completed. As discussed in the Members' Council of 24 November 2025, a concrete proposal on the repayment of this surcharge will follow shortly.
Departmental memberships
- What does a department membership cost?
Membership for two departments is free for any KIVI member. If you want to be a member of more than two departments, we charge an additional €2.50 per year per department.
- I want to join (another) chapter. How do I arrange this?
Log in to www.kivi.nl with your personal login details. Click on your profile picture/name and choose 'Profile & settings'. Go to 'Membership' and under 'Departments' change the departments you want to be a member of.
Member book
- Where can I find the membership book?
As a KIVI member, you have access to the member directory. You find it by logging in and clicking on profile (top right).
You then enter the community environment where you click on 'members' at the top to find another member. As a member, you indicate in your profile whether you want to be found by other members and what information may then be visible.
A fully completed and visible profile enables networking with professional enthusiasts about social problems, work opportunities, technical problems and upcoming KIVI activities.
It is not desirable to approach other members to sell their own services and/or beliefs. This is monitored by KIVI.
- Setting a profile in the member book, how do I do it?
Read the instructions on how to edit your profile here.
We explain which information is visible and which is not. You can choose what others can see and read about you. A complete profile stimulates the operation of the member directory. Other members can find you and you can find other members and possibly collaborate on social and technical projects.
- The membership book is part of the online community. Want to read more about what you can do in the community?
Find an explanation of the online community and see what you can do there.
Other
- Can I take out a membership without The Engineer?
You will always receive The Engineer. Of course, we can stop sending you The Engineer, but this does not affect your membership fee.
Students and members younger than 31 years old only receive The Engineer as a digital magazine and can also receive the paper version by sending an e-mail to ledenadministratie@kivi.nl. The cost for sending is €17.50 per year.
