Researchers in Denmark claim that they have found a process that should make it possible to transform methane into methanol by a clean sun driven process.

Just like in the normal photosynthesis process, light from the sun is collected by chlorophyll but instead of converting it into plant material, the sunlight breaks down plant materials with the help of a specific enzyme. This way carbon bonds can be transformed and useful products can be made in a few minutes while the traditional process takes hours. According to the researchers, this process could have a significant influence on the fuel industry.
