Het was een goede lezing over het gebruik van CO2 uit de industrie in de tuinbouw (>400 kT/yr), maar is nog een fractie van de CO2 emissie in de Rotterdamse Haven. (Jacob Limbeek) en over de plannen van het Havenbedrijf voor een complete CCS infrastructuur , die de industriële CO2 offshore gaat opslaan.

Omschrijving
To achieve CO2 emission reduction, there is a potential synergy between carbon capture and storage (CCS) in the Rotterdam industry and carbon capture and utilization (CCU) in greenhouses. This presentation will address the plans of Organic CO2 Assimilation by Plants (OCAP) and the Port of Rotterdam and highlight the opportunity to achieve large scale CO2 emission reduction, while strengthen both the position of the Port of Rotterdam and the greenhouse sector.
CO2 is used on a large scale by greenhouses to enhance crop growth. Growers mostly use flue gases from boilers or co-generation, which are powered by natural gas. To enable the transition of the greenhouse sector to become CO2 neutral, greenhouses need to change to sustainable CO2 sources and renewable alternatives for heat. As a solution, OCAP supplies CO2 by pipeline from the Rotterdam industry to greenhouses located between Rotterdam and Amsterdam. OCAP is looking to increase the supply volumes.
At the same time, the Port of Rotterdam has evaluated measures to reduce CO2 emissions and keep the port attractive for current and new industries. Large scale CCS is seen as a necessary measure to achieve those goals. In combination with the existing CO2 infrastructure to supply greenhouses, it enables a kick start for large scale CCS in the Port of Rotterdam.

After studying Physics at the TU Delft, Jacob Limbeek worked for Energie Delfland, among other things in the field of waste heat and CO2 supply to the greenhouses. The idea for OCAP was originated there. In 2000, after the acquisition of Energie Delfland by Eneco, OCAP was founded by Jacob and his former boss. In 2003, Linde Gas and VolkerWessels partnered with OCAP to realize the project. Since OCAP is operational (2005), Jacob has been enabling and serving the increasing demand of CO2 in the greenhouse sector and as such driving the transition from gas to sustainable energy sources.
