Omschrijving

Engineers Without Borders-the Netherlands and Rijkswaterstaat invite you to a lecture combined with a workshop Cross Cultural Collaboration on (mega) projects.

On Thursday May 8th Karen Smits (Ph.D.) will give a lecture in LEF future center Rijkswaterstaat about her research on Cross Cultural Collaboration in Project Management. This lecture will be followed by a workshop in which participants individually apply the insights learned from the Panama Canal Expansion project. The goal is to learn how to collaborate in a multicultural (mega) project.

Focus on collaboration
Karen Smits has done research on intercultural collaboration in mega projects. Mega projects are complex social environments in which collaboration is a critical success factor for the outcome of the project. There are various ways in which the participants can collaborate within the complexity of a mega project. During the workshop we will focus on the diminishers of collaboration and the amplifiers of collaboration. Understanding how these work is important for both project participants as well as the project management.

Case study: The Panama Canal Expansion Program
The Panama Canal Expansion Program is used as a case study from which we can learn. The Panama Canal is being expanded with new locks and the waterway is widened and deepened. The expansion will increase the capacity and strengthens the canal’s competitive position.
