Future Proof Shipping
The design and conversion of the first fully zero emission inland container vessel
On Thursday 25th of January KNVTS and KIVI MarTec jointly organized an interesting lecture on the design and conversion of the first fully zero emission inland container vessel. Dirk de Jong elaborated on the design of the system, the safety philosophy and highlight the challenges encountered during the design and approval process of the hydrogen powered vessel. The second part of his presentation he focussed on the actual conversion of the vessel and the first experiences of the H2 barge 1 sailing on hydrogen.
Inland shipping is considered one of the least polluting methods of transport, but also the inland shipping will need to move away from using fossil fuels. With the launch of H2 Barge 1 (ex FPS Maas) Future Proof Shipping has created the first fully zero emission inland container vessel. During the conversion of the vessel, all the exiting fossil fuel based technology has been removed and is replaced by an electric propulsion installation which is running on green hydrogen.
Speaker: Dirk de Jong, Project Manager Future Proof Shipping
