Individual players are not able to meet the targets without coordination because of the complexity. External coordination is required and the government could take that leading role. The CO2-targets are a nice starting point for accelerating ECCM, but more investments and coordination is required.
In the report it is made clear that it is necessary to have cheap electricity available to be able to compete with foreign industries that use fossil fuels. If ECCM would make it possible to make products and power from renewable resources, an important step towards a sustainable industry would be made.
Topsectors Energy, HTSM and chemistry see changes to make a contribution in the social challenges concerning energy transition and circular economy. Collaboration between business, government and science is the starting point.
