The evolution of offshore wind is moving toward simpler, lighter, and more cost-effective structures. As the industry shifts toward TP-less designs, the challenge of maintaining robust access and functionality remains.

KIVI Offshore Technology is proud to welcome Stefan Erents, Sif’s Programme Manager Product Development, to discuss the front line of monopile fabrication and the technical journey behind the Skybox.

From Fabrication to Innovation

Stefan will open the evening with an overview of the current state of monopile fabrication at Sif, highlighting the "near and far" challenges facing the industry as turbines continue to scale up.

Deep Dive: The Skybox Concept

The core of the presentation will focus on the development of the Skybox—a revolutionary access platform. While traditional Transition Pieces (TPs) are losing ground, many current TP-less alternatives come with their own complexities. The Skybox addresses these head-on by:

  • Simplifying the Monopile: Removing the need for welded brackets on the primary structure.
  • Streamlining Hardware: Eliminating traditional boat landings and ladders.
  • Optimizing Logistics: Utilizing a one-lift installation technique that requires no specialized installation tooling.

This lecture offers a unique look at the technical challenges of bringing a concept from the drawing board out to sea.
