Shell: Subsurface hazards and human performance in the drilling process
Shell: Subsurface hazards and human performance in the drilling process
This activity will be conducted in English and is organized by IMechE Benelux. It is open to members of both IMechE and KIVI who are warmly invited to participate. A valid government-issued ID is required for the on-site visit.
Visit to Shell
The Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) Benelux Group warmly welcomes KIVI members to join an exclusive meeting at Shell’s Head Office in The Hague, with unique access to the Shell Learning drilling simulator.
Shell Exploration and Production drills oil and gas wells around the world. Uncertainties in the subsurface create situations where staff must make key decisions to prevent or mitigate incidents, often under stressful and adverse conditions. This session will demonstrate how staff are trained and prepared for successful outcomes.
All industries face the potential for disruption — from supply chain failures and cybersecurity issues to production equipment breakdowns — all requiring fast, informed decision-making under time pressure. This makes the session highly relevant across diverse organizations.
Session Agenda
- Learn about hazards present in the subsurface
- How human performance is used to create resilience
- Hands-on opportunity with the drilling simulator
- Opportunity to network with fellow IMechE members
Virtual Session
A virtual session will be available, covering the first part of the visit with an overview of the hazards in the subsurface and how human performance improves outcomes.
It is also possible to attend only the digital part of this event via the registration link on this page.
