Medical Technology and Risk Management
Description
The Risk Management and Engineering Department is holding a symposium on risk management and medical devices on 9 September 2015. Technical issues in testing prototypes of new devices will be discussed. Is certification currently adequately regulated? Are regulations for use in hospitals effective? Where does the responsibility of the designing engineer lie in the development phase and beyond?
Not unimportant is the ethical dimension. What is the relationship between technological development and prevailing morality? Should the implicit morality involved in much medical intervention be made explicit? How should the engineer act responsibly in using his technical creativity when working on designing and building the prototypes?
During the symposium, there is plenty of room for discussion. Important question points will be raised, on which participants can cast their votes.
