We participated in a general programme organised by Heerema and Mammoet. The Heerema-built jacket named Gina Krog was to be loaded aboard the pontoon Saimpem S600. With 17,500 tonnes, a height of 142 metres and a ground area of 60x60 metres, this jacket was the largest ever built by Heerema in Vlissingen.

Lars de Haas of Mammoet and Arnoud van Drunen of Heerema introduced the operation with a presentation.

Due to its enormous weight and dimensions, a lifting operation was out of the question. Instead, Mammoet used a skid system to pull the jacket onto this pontoon. Moving such an object from a fixed quay to a floating pontoon places high demands on systems that stabilise the pontoon and prevent a height difference between quay and pontoon, which could pose a real risk of uncontrollable shearing of this object with enormous damage. A complicating factor here was the tide of 4.5 metres. A ballast system with 56 pumps and an area of 1,000 m3 proved to be able to cope well with these challenges.

Some members of the department were present, including a board member. The quay consisted mainly of zane and was therefore poorly passable. Partly for safety and weather reasons, a covered stand had been set up. From a distance, we could follow an operation that was exceptional even in this world.

Description

PLEASE NOTE CHANGED DATE / TIME

The load-out of the Gina Krog jacket is scheduled for Saturday 28 March, and the Heerema site will be open to interested parties from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Heerema has set up a stand for this purpose. Heerema has set up a stand for this purpose.

KIVI members can attend, but must register in advance.

The Gina Krog jacket weighs 17500t and is the largest jacket ever made at Heerema Vlissingen. The jacket is 142 metres high and has a footprint of 60x60m (but is now lying on its side).

Using the skid system, the jacket is pulled from the site onto the Saipem S 600 pontoon. Gradually, more and more weight will then be put on the pontoon and the pontoon will therefore lie deeper on the quay side. And to make things extra exciting, there is also a tide of 4.5m. All this will be compensated by balstering with 56 pumps from our 1000 m3 ballast system. This ensures that the pontoon remains flat and with the deck at quayside level.
