Planetary Exploration
Omschrijving
The VSV ‘Leonardo da Vinci’, study society of Aerospace Engineering students of the Delft University of Technology, will be organising a Planetary Exploration Symposium on Tuesday 4th of March, 2014. The symposium will take place in the Auditorium of the university.
The symposium will look at the preparations and plans for future missions to the two most exciting targets in the solar system: Jupiter (robotic) and Mars (robotic and manned). The issues we plan to address are, among other things: the fascinating Jupiter icy moons, including Europa, Io and Ganymede; how can a crew survive a 250+ day voyage to Mars; and what do we know about Mars along with future robotic and manned exploration plans. Speakers include ESA astronaut André Kuipers, Chairman of the Executive Board at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and Chair of the ESA Council Johann-Dietrich Wörner and Richard Cook, Deputy Program Director Curiosity of the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory. The day will be led by our chairman professor Heinz Stoewer, a very experienced space leader, honourary member of the VSV ‘Leonardo da Vinci’ and former managing director of the German Space Agency (DARA).
