The art and Science of Cycling
Lecture: The art and science of cycling
Cycling usually seems self-evident, but did you know that it is in fact a continuous balancing act on an extremely wobbly thing?
Bicycle professor dr. Arend Schwab (TU Delft) has a bicycle lab in which he studies the mechanics and dynamics of cycling. He will explain that, when driving a bike, you’re constantly almost falling. Your handlebars are crucial in preventing this.
What forces are acting on your bike while riding straight ahead and what happens when you take a turn? For the fast cycling devils among us: what’s the best way to position your body in a curve at high speed?
This lecture is organized in cooperation with Studium Generale UT.
