EngD Community

Raising awareness for the EngD programme’s unique contribution to the Dutch innovation ecosystem.
What is EngD - Engineering Doctorate?
An EngD programme is meant for post-master students. The main difference with PhD is the focus: a PhD is aimed to establish you as an independent researcher and an EngD prepares you for a high-level position in industry. PhD-programmes take 4 years, EngD-programmes take 2 years.
All EngD programmes are part of the joint initiative 4TU.SAI (4TU.School for Technological Design, Stan Ackermans Institute). The institute is a joint initiative of the 4 universities of technology in The Netherlands. Recently, Wageningen & Groningen University also joined.
Currently there are 4000-5000 Alumni in The Netherlands, since the start of the EngD programme 40 years ago. Right now, there are 500-600 students split over the EngD programmes nationally.
