On the 4th of March, KIVI welcomed a group of Chartered and Incorporated Engineers for an in‑depth Mentor Training session focused on strengthening mentoring skills and supporting the next generation of engineering professionals.
At KIVI, we stand by our principle: “Engineer your career, improve our society.” Lifelong development (CPD) is central to this goal, and mentoring forms an essential part of it. By guiding candidates on their path to Chartership, experienced engineers help build a stronger, more confident professional community.
What the Training Covered
Throughout the session, participants explored several core elements of effective mentorship:
- A deep dive into the NL‑SPEC assessment process, providing clarity on the steps towards Chartership and the mentor’s role in that journey.
- Using the GROW model, a structured and practical tool for coaching that supports focused and productive conversations.
- Working through practical scenarios, allowing mentors to apply their knowledge directly and reflect on real‑world situations.
The engagement and commitment of the group made it a valuable and constructive session, with many participants enthusiastic about starting new mentor groups and expanding support for Chartership candidates.
Our appreciation goes to Wouter Karreman and Rinze Geertsma, who delivered a well‑designed programme with clear guidance and a collaborative approach.
Looking Ahead
With this training completed, we look forward to seeing more mentor groups take shape across the engineering sector. Together, we can ensure upcoming engineers receive the guidance they need to grow in their profession.
