
Bas Buchner
Job title: Chairman of Netherlands Maritime Land (NML) and Programme Director Maritime Unmanned at the Royal Netherlands Navy (Royal Netherlands Navy Command: CZSK)
Dr.ir. Bas Buchner was General Director of MARIN (Maritime Research Institute Netherlands) from 2011 to 2024. After studying Maritime Technology at Delft University of Technology, he started there as a researcher in 1991. In 2002, he obtained his PhD alongside his work at TU Delft. Under his leadership, the new MARIN Strategy 'Better Ships, Blue Oceans' was developed, focusing on sustainability and safety of the maritime sector. He is one of the initiators of the 'Maritime Masterplan' for an emission-free maritime sector and the Sector Agenda for the Maritime Manufacturing Industry.
Bas Buchner is now chairman of Netherlands Maritime Land (NML) and Programme Director Maritime Unmanned at the Royal Netherlands Navy (Commando Zeestrijdkrachten: CZSK)
For his work for the maritime sector, the King appointed him Officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau in December 2024. He was also elected 'Alumnus of the Year 2024' by TU Delft.
