iGEM - TU Eindhoven
Globally, 400 million people suffer from autoimmune diseases, 1 million of them due to the inflammatory disorder ANCA-associated vasculitis (AAV). Current therapies against AAV are based on unspecific immunosuppressive drugs that entail burdensome side effects, high healthcare expenditure and high workload, while disease relapse is not excluded. To overcome these shortcomings, we designed !MPACT: a Modular and Personalised Autoimmune Cell Therapy. A therapy in which harvested immune cells from the patient are genetically modified and multiplied, after which the engineered cells are re-administered to the patient.
