The Society of the Dutch Chemical Industry has been around for a 100 years!
Twenty one companies came together in the spring of 1918 to form the “Vereeniging van de Nederlandsche Chemische Industrie”, VNCI for short. Many companies joined in quick succession: in October of that year the new society counted already 41 members. Many of these stalwarts have ceased to exist, or disappeared through mergers, but some are still around even on the same location as a hundred years ago, such as Chemische Fabriek ‘Naarden’ (now Givaudan) and Ketjen in Amsterdam (now Albemarle).
The whole history of VNCI will be told in 10 issues of Chemie Magazine, starting with the January issue.
