What a lovely dream: our politicians pursuing fact-based policies instead of ideology- or phantasy-based policies. Except that getting hold of the facts can be maddeningly frustrating. We ourselves often can’t see the forest for the trees.
What a lovely dream: our politicians pursuing fact-based policies instead of ideology- or phantasy-based policies. Except that getting hold of the facts can be maddeningly frustrating. We ourselves often can’t see the forest for the trees. Take for instance energy transition, something that just about every process engineer will have to deal with, if not directly, then indirectly.
Where do you start? How much energy do we consume each year and where does it go? Which part is for transportation or for industry? Which part is generated by burning gas or oil or coal? What is the present price structure?
And then the choices: take the initiative or wait for the government? The list goes on and on.
ECN has done all of us a great favor by gathering all these facts into a very coherent webpage. It also provides the opportunity to see what the consequences are of your own personal preferences (such as: should every consumer – large and small – pay the same rate for their CO2 release?).
Coherent as it may be, it is still very easy to lose an hour of your time (you are encouraged to do that!) just meandering around the page.
