HiSarna: a revolution for steelmaking
Description
CO2 emissions are a growing issue. That is why the Ultra Low Carbon Steelmaking (ULCOS) programme has been set up within the iron and steel industry. Tata Steel is also participating in it. One of the parts of this programme involves the HiSarna project, for which Tata Steel (as the former Hoogovens) laid the foundations back in the 1980s (the Cyclone Converter Furnace). In combination with the HiSmelt process and the original CCF project, the HiSarna concept was developed. A number of trials with this have been carried out at Tata Steel in IJmuiden since 2011. This will soon culminate in an endurance test, to establish the stable process parameters.
The operational manager of this project will provide the details of this and touch on the future.
