Tata Steel Netherlands on its way to Green Steel
Steel is indispensable in our modern society. Bridges, cars, ships, trains and apartment buildings, as well as cutlery, bicycles, batteries and locks. Every day, we make frequent use of steel. Unfortunately, making steel releases a lot of CO2. For years, scientific research has been carried out to develop a good alternative. Due to the functionality of steel on a large scale, this has not yet been achieved commercially on a large scale. But that it can be done is certain. Greening through direct reduction of iron ore with hydrogen is already under way at Tata Steel in IJmuiden. We have found Peter Hoppesteyn, Programme Lead Operational Sustainability atTata Steel, willing to explain this evening about the upcoming developments in IJmuiden to make the company CO2 neutral by 2045.
