Description

A lecture given by project director Ben Spierings about the Brouwersdam Tidal Power Plant.

The provinces of South Holland and Zeeland, Rijkswaterstaat and the municipalities of Goeree-Overflakkee and Schouwen-Duiveland are committed to building a tidal power plant on the Brouwers Dam and a test centre for turbines on the Grevelingendam. Together with companies, knowledge institutions and civil society organisations, they want to serve several public and private interests at the same time. In doing so, they also want to boost area development on and around the lake. The tide disappeared when the Brouwers Dam was built in 1971. A culvert in the dam should bring the tide back. The oxygen-rich seawater that can then flow back into the lake under the influence of low tides at sea will improve conditions for nature, (water) recreation, tourism and fishing and the regional economy as a whole
