The Netherlands is threatened by accelerating sea level rise. The water is coming to our lips. In the hinterland, the washing rivers are pushing the beds out of their sockets. And under our feet, drinking water is salinising and the sea pressure is bursting the soil.

Is our country still salvageable? Are we giving up the Netherlands to the sea, or can we use our ingenuity and craftsmanship inherent in engineers to deal with these major threats?

Engineers Dick Butijn and Willem Bos first outline the issues, after which they focus - alongside alternatives that may or may not be promising - on two master plans (Haakse Zeedijk and Nieuwe Hollandse Bosvariant) that may be able to save our country. The Netherlands is about to be transformed, but which direction do we want to take?
