Description

Two presentations and ALV of the KIVI Department of Aerospace Engineering.

* End-of-life and reusability in spaceflight; unexpected challenges and innovations
The End of Life in spaceflight has its unique challenges depending on where you mission will or might end. A broad spectrum of issues can arise from contaminating the surface of another planet to blocking future spaceflight with orbital debris. In this lecture, Peter Batenburg provide several examples of how space mission planners dealt with (unforeseen) ending of missions. In addition he will address the current re-emerging drive for reusability in the launcher segment that is shaking up the launcher market.

** End-of-Life Aircraft - Aviation: the most circular industry in the world
Derk-Jan van Heerden will explain how aircraft end-of-life management is integrated in the greater aviation supply chain. Due to normal economic drivers the aviation sector is already a very circular industry. Why is this? Can we even improve? What are the challenges ahead?

Speaker(s)

* Peter Batenburg (APP bv)
Peter Batenburg studied aerospace engineering at the faculty of Aerospace Engineering of the TU Delft with a focus on space systems. After finishing his study, Peter worked at Airbus Defence & Space in Bremen for the International Space Station Programme for 6 years as Engineering Flight Controller followed by Mission Integration Management. After working for the ISS programme, he became a consultant for ADSE in the aerospace and mobility market before he recently started as project manager for Aerospace Propulsion Products (APP bv). Peter has a life long passion and interest for spaceflight.

** Derk-Jan van Heerden (AELS bv)
Derk-Jan van Heerden studied aerospace engineering at TU Delft. He graduated in 2005 on the subject of aircraft recycling. For that work, he also received the NVvL award for best graduate. Immediately after graduating, he started the company AELS. Now 11 years later, he is still managing director of the company and is also president of AFRA. The international branch organisation of aircraft recyclers.
