Knowledge Café Asset management movable bridges
Knowledge sharing and dialogue session
Organisers: KIVI Asset Management & Maintenance and NVRB
What will Asset Management of movable bridges look like in the future?
Are we moving more towards fixed bridges instead of movable bridges in the future? How could we standardise more? Would it be possible to be fully circular with the materials used? Could the bridges be fully energy-neutral and emission-free powered? What are the implications of a changing climate? This is something we would like to discuss with our panelists.
We also want to look back at the trade-offs in the design choices of movable bridges:
- Who are the main users and what are their needs?
- How often should the bridge open or close for them
- What height would have been needed for shipping to pass under it?
- How much space would have been needed to do so?
- How do these choices contribute to the city's accessibility?
- Would the new generation of Asset Managers today make different choices with today's knowledge?
We will discuss this using a number of case studies.
Knowledge transfer between different domains is important. Knowledge of movable bridges is also applicable to locks and dams, and in addition, waterways also play an important role in decisions concerning movable bridges.
We will cover these topics with the following 5 speakers:
- Jasper Kruidhof (Director of Asset Management, Rijkswaterstaat)
- Henk-Jan van Wijk (Technical Asset Manager, Municipality of Rotterdam)
- Kodo Sektani (Mechanical Engineering Consultant, Antea Group)
