Description

On Wednesday 11 December, Infraflex and Movares will host a lunch lecture. The lecture will feature a talk by structural design engineer László Vákár. He has become known for such extraordinary innovations as cold-bendable glass and The Sustainable Way. This is also what Mr Vákár will talk about during the lecture, among other things.

On 11 December, everyone is welcome to visit OH 116 from 12.35pm. Lunch will be provided.

Here is an explanation of the topics that will be discussed: First, Mr Vákár will briefly explain his work and how his career has developed since his studies. He will then elaborate on the subject of smart roofing with cold bent glass. Cold bending of glass was already done twenty years ago with single glass. László Vákár was the first to research it and overcame the prejudice that tempered laminated glass could not be cold bent. The need for a cheaper alternative to hot bent glass and a more durable solution than polycarbonate sheets was the reason for Movares to conduct research. The canopy of the Sloterdijk Hemboog bus stop is an example a construction of cold bent glass. That design was derived from the previously designed, but later built, canopy of Bus Station IJsei behind Amsterdam CS.

At the end of the presentation, László Vákár will touch on a perhaps even more appealing innovation of his: 'The Sustainable Road'. The Sustainable Road is a road with a Freeformglass® canopy. The canopy reduces noise and environmental pollution and provides energy from solar heat and waste heat from cars
