Hydraulics Day 9/10/2025: 'Towards a resilient Hydraulics!'

Our country and our industry face significant challenges. Think of dealing with the threat from the east, digital threats around our critical (hydraulic) infrastructure and transport and energy networks. During the Water Construction Day on Thursday 9 October, we will reflect on what this means for our sector and how we are responding to it.

Wondering who will be on stage? Below is a selection of the programme.

In the plenary programme hosted by Didi te Gussinklo Ohmann (Van Oord) and Stefan Aarninkhof (TU Delft), among others, Ben Bekkering will speak about 'Our safety from a geopolitical perspective'. During the presentation of the Hydraulic Engineering Award 2025, the stage once again fills with promising hydraulic engineering talent! The Juliana Canal is one of the interesting projects that will be presented in plenary by Robin Koorengevel (Van den Herik Sliedrecht) & Suzanne Maas (Rijkswaterstaat). We will conclude with the presentation of the Jan Agema Prize 2025, whose nominated projects will also be on display all day at the special exhibition at the Expo.

Of course, there are also another 5 inspiring afternoon sessions to choose from. These presentations you can expect include:

1) Young Professionals: the international ResiRiver project

2) Structural Hydraulic Engineering / Replacement and Renovation Programme: the smart Framework Wall Amaliahaven with Joris Bruens (Port of Rotterdam) and Chris van Marrewijk (SBE)

3) renewable energy: the Eems Energy terminal with Merijn Zuidgeest (Gasunie)

4) Flood protection: the WTEc (Water Risk Training Expertise Centre) with Marc Balemans (WTEc)

5) Resilient Hydraulic Construction (day topic): SeaSEC (civil-military cooperation for protection of submarine infrastructure in the North and Baltic Seas) with Carine Van Bentum (SeaSEC - Seabed Security Experimentation Centre)

Hydraulic Construction Day Community Podcasts
In this podcast series, you will hear from experts, researchers and practitioners about the latest developments, innovations and challenges in hydraulic engineering. You will also get a behind-the-scenes look at interesting projects and organisations working towards a safe, sustainable and liveable water environment. We already recorded podcasts with inspiring speakers twice during the Water Construction Day in 2023 and 2024. This year, our podcast studio can again be found at the Waterbouwdag Expo. You can find all recorded podcasts here.
