Description

We would like to invite you to visit Pilot Sand Motor. Between March 2011 and October 2011, Rijkswaterstaat and the province of South Holland are constructing the Sand Motor in the form of a hook. The project is in full swing and thus a reason for a visit.

*From sand to land.
The Sand Motor is an innovative way of coastal protection. Nature helps us in protecting ourselves from the sea. Off the coast of Ter Heijde will be a 100-hectare peninsula, as large as 200 football fields or half the size of the island of Rottumeroog. Wind, waves and currents will spread the sand along the coast between Hoek van Holland and Scheveningen over the next 20 years. It will form new beaches and dunes there, protecting us from rising sea levels and providing extra space for nature and recreation.

*Access
The visit to and on the Sand Motor will be on foot. Please take this into account (e.g. in terms of clothing and fitness). If enough cars are available, it is possible to drive together to one of the nearby beaches.
The information centre is located on the grounds of the Hoogheemraadschap van Delfland

*Global programme
During this visit, we will give you a brief explanation of the project and go on site to see it. The provisional programme is as follows (details will follow):
13.30: reception and explanation of Pilot Sand Motor.
14.30: visit to the work site under supervision of the contractor.
16.30: closing drinks.
