As part of Restoration Programme Keringen Bossche Broek Zuid, the Royal Institute of Engineers (KIVI) is organising an excursion to the restoration of Waterkering 21. Hosted by client Waterschap De Dommel and contractor Vissers Ploegmakers, the meeting will consist of two presentations and a tour of the work.

We will be guests at the Brabants Landschap foundation's estate Haanwijk, where we will be received in Buitenlokaal Haanwijk. First of all, there will be an opportunity to catch up with each other over coffee or tea with some sweets.
Next there will be a presentation, during which the client will explain the Restoration Programme Flood Defences, the project Restoration Programme Flood Defences Bossche Broek Zuid, and flood defence dam 21 in particular. This is a barrier of the "other barriers" type, is characterised as a historical quay, and is located near the national monument Oud Herlaer, among others. Characteristic of this project is high-water protection combined with nature restoration.
Afterwards, the contractor discusses a number of technical aspects of the work, including planning, organisation and soil flows. Special aspects of this work are that additional measures need to be taken due to a nearby beaver lodge, and that specific plants and herbs will be installed.

Finally, a tour of the work will follow, during which the implementation can be viewed. We will probably be able to see how beaver netting will be installed in the retaining structure at that time, but the planning of the work is highly dependent on weather conditions and ecological factors. There will be ample opportunity to ask questions. No later than 16:00 the meeting will end.

Background information on the plans and the organisations involved can be found on the following websites, among others.

During the tour, we are on a work site, where wearing safety vests and safety shoes is mandatory. The vests will be provided for use, but you must provide suitable footwear yourself.

Brabants Landschap and local residents request motorists to park outside the estate. From the car park on Halderse Akkers street (a side street of Vugtherweg in Sint-Michielsgestel), it is a short kilometre walk to the Buitenlokaal. It is easily accessible by bicycle, and located near cycle junction 64.
