Suikerunie, Dinteloord
Description
Climate & Energy - People, Profit, Planet
The cultivation of sugar beet and the production and transportation of sugar use natural resources. These are mainly fossil fuels and water. Various emissions are also released, including CO2.
Suiker Unie is constantly working to save energy and water, operate more efficiently and reduce emissions by, among other things:
I Production of green gas
The symbolic first pile was driven in early 2011, marking the start of the construction of the biomass fermentation unit that will enable Suiker Unie to start producing green energy. It is also the start of participation in the West Brabant biobased economy project, in which sugar beet has an important role to play in the future.
II Development of the Nieuw Prinsenland industrial estate
With a heat and water network:
The starting point for the development is sustainable thinking and action: People, Profit, Planet. Bringing together the sugar factory, the new businesses and greenhouse horticulture creates opportunities for profitable Symbiosis & Cooperation.
A number of examples are:
- Exchange, reuse and processing of (residual) flows;
- Use of residual heat from the sugar factory (saving 10-20 million m3 of natural gas, or the consumption of approx. 8,300 households);
- Use of a biomass digester (approx. 10 million m3 of green gas, or the consumption of approx. 5,500 households, available for companies on the business park and heating greenhouses);
- 6 wind turbines, combined capacity 18 megawatts;
- CO2 distribution network;
- The (re)use of beet land, for landscaping, among other things.
Landscape dykes along the glasshouse horticulture are combined with pouring water basins. Including the pouring water basins in the landscape incorporation will help create a unified appearance of the area
