In late 2016, KIVI launched the idea of developing a Big Data Security Hub in The Hague. The idea was received with particular enthusiasm by a number of parties.

The Big Data Security Lab will be used by various target groups from working engineers, researchers, start-ups, schoolchildren to students. KIVI is explicitly seeking cooperation with the Municipality of The Hague, The Hague Security Delta, TU Delft and a number of large tech companies in the Hague region. The division of roles between KIVI and these parties will be worked out in further consultation.

The attic of the KIVI building at Prinsessegracht will be converted into a high-tech IT lab called 0070lab.

KIVI will provide programming workshops in the Big Data Security Lab for schoolchildren and students in The Hague. The lab will also be used for workshops and demonstrations on big data security for the KIVI chair and research aimed at engineers in professional practice, hackathons will be organised in collaboration with companies and the lab will be used by KIVI's IT department to organise knowledge meetings. Researchers are also given the opportunity to use the lab for testing.
