Kooy Symposium 2009-ROBOTS ON ACT
Description
On 14 April 2009, the Prof Ir Dr J.M.J. Kooy symposium will take place for the eighth time. This symposium is organised by KIVI NIRIA Defence and Security in cooperation with TNO and APA (the association for technical officers of the Royal Netherlands Army).
The theme of this symposium is
DE ROBOTS AAN ZET
The subject of robotics is one of the five technological developments mentioned in the Strategic Knowledge Agenda of Defence of which important opportunities are expected. The symposium highlights this technology from various angles: operational, technical and from an industrial perspective. Again this year, there will be excellent speakers and you can exchange views with a high-level audience. There will also be a small exhibition with robot demonstrations.
After presentation of the Prof. Kooy prize for the best graduation thesis on defence or security technology by the chairman of KIVI NIRIA Defence and Security ir Wim Borawitz, Bgen Leanne van den Hoek will open the symposium with a keynote speech from her position as Chief of Staff of the Royal Netherlands Army Command. She will address the opportunities and problems in the use of robots in defence tasks but also by security services such as police and fire brigades.
Afterwards, speakers from the scientific world, the armed forces and industry will address the points raised.
Dr Johan van den Heuvel of TNO has been involved in robotics research as programme leader for more than a decade. He is very well versed in the international world in this field.
Ubo Termote, as Dutch Space's Director of Marketing, Sales and Strategy, will address industry developments, drawing on the vast experience gained in space robotics.
Following the Future Exploration of Robotics by the Defence Staff, Maj Bert Stam of the Commando Landstrijdkrachten has been tasked with drawing up a roadmap for the development and introduction of the joint tasking of unmanned vehicles within the armed forces. He will use the insights gained in the process as a guide for his talk.
The chairman of the day will be Genm bd ir Lex Besselink, the former director of Weapon Systems and Companies of the Defence Materiel Organisation
